The IMF: The Most Important Bra-Fitting Term You’ve Probably Never Heard

When I studied economics in college we talked about the IMF quite a lot. Little did I know that 20 years later, it would come back into my life - just in a completely different way.
In this case, IMF stands for inframammary fold. It’s simply the natural crease where your breast meets your chest. And that's exactly where the underwire should sit.

You know how women often say they can't wait to get home to rip their bra off at the end of the day? That's 100% because it's not sitting in the right place.
When the wire sits too low, a lot of fit problems start to appear. The bra loses support, the straps start doing too much work, and the whole bra can feel uncomfortable.
After putting on your bra, make sure all of your breast tissue is inside the cups and that the wire follows the natural root of the breast.
It’s a small detail, but it makes a huge difference.
